South Bucks Golf Day Report

Bucks Golf DayPRINT boss Doug Woods was smiles better when he booked a place in the Gold Club National Final in Spain next year.

 

The 17-handicap player produced a superb 18 holes at well-known Wycombe Heights Golf Course in Loudwater, High Wycombe, to win the South Bucks golf tournament at his first attempt.

 

 

Gusty Winds

Doug, who is a member of Donnington Valley Golf Club, battled the gusty wind to card 33 points on the testing par-70, 6,272-yard course on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. It was designed by former Ryder Cup captain, John Jacobs.
Doug, a former club captain and past president at Donnington Valley, beat off a strong challenge from Peter Hollingsworth to take the prize.

 

Delight

Doug (pictured second left in his foursome for the day) runs a business specialising in general and commercial printing and management. He said: "It was a windy day so I was delighted with my score. Winning was a wonderful surprise and the prize is really something to look forward to."

 

Runner-up

Runner-up Peter plays off 23 at Oakland Park GC and tournament organiser Eric Foster said it was particularly pleasing to see Peter do so well as he has organised a successful fund raising golf day in aid of a local hospice for the past few years.
The freelance financial director and has trimmed his handicap from 28 this season. He said: "This is my first major win. Previously I've only won an occasional monthly medal.
"The course was very challenging because of the weather.
"I played reasonably well but didn't expect to be in the top two so I was totally surprised when my name was announced."
