From April 2010 business rates will be calculated using a new valuation list based on property values in Spring 2008.

The Valuation Office has issued a new rating list and all businesses are urged to check their details on that rating list.

If you think your details are incorrect you should notify the Valuation Office at that web site.

Appeals

Appeals against rateable values can be lodged from 01 April 2010 and the process can be straight forward.

Essex FSB members are encouraged to contact the FSB Legal Advice Line for free advice on how to lodge an appeal.

Any organisation which approaches you to guarantee a successful appeal should be treated with extreme caution, especially if cash is requested in advance of the appeal.

A scheme is being introduced to provide phased introduction of rates increases for businesses.
