Traditionally Essex has had a long history of craftsmen working in maritime related industries thanks to the county's extensive coastline.
Many of those skills are now at risk of disappearing as few apprentices have been recruited in recent years.
The Essex County Council Apprenticeship Scheme aims to provide help to businesses in the maritime sector wishing to recruit an apprentice.
The Maritime Apprenticeships scheme was launched on Friday 05 February 2010 at The Pioneer Sailing Trust in Brightlingsea
Partners
The Maritime Apprenticeship Scheme is being delivered in partnership with the British Marine Federation and The Pioneer Sailing Trust in Brightlingsea with some training delivered by Prospects College in Basildon.
