Scottish Borders Business Fund

Scottish Borders Council's (SBC) Economic Development team has announced the renewal of the Scottish Borders Business Fund for 2011/2012.

The £90,000 scheme is one part of the local authority's continuing support to businesses in the area in conjunction with Business Gateway. The fund allows small businesses to apply for grants of up to 50% of the total cost of a business development project, with a limit of £4,000.

Last year, 42 grants were awarded to various companies across the region in industries as diverse as software development, veterinary care, catering and textiles.

The grant is available up until the end of March 2012 and is available for an activity that will boost sales, increase profit and support employment. Projects might include new product development, improving existing processes, IT development, new electronic trading activity or new market development. The average grant is expected to be in the region of £1,500.

Following an initial indication of interest and vetting process, businesses will be asked to complete a straightforward application process. Help and guidance will be available from Business Gateway advisors.

Applications will be appraised by a panel made up from members of SBC's Economic Development and Finance teams.

For further information on the scheme, contact Scottish Borders Business Fund, Economic Development, Scottish Borders Council, Council HQ, Newtown St Boswells, TD6 0SA. Tel: 01835 826787 or email: business@scotborders.gov.uk
