The FSB is calling on the European Commission to take action against the French Government for its failure to prevent fishermen blockading ports in France and therefore causing disruption and financial loss to hauliers and commuters on both sides of the Channel.

The principle of free movement of goods is one of the cornerstones of the internal market, prescribing the removal of national barriers to the free movement of goods within the EU. The French Government's failure to prevent these regular port blockades is a clear breach of their obligations, costing the UK economy around £6 million.
