The winner of Most Promising New Business, is Photon Energy based in Reading.
It installs renewable energy systems – solar electric and water heating systems and small wind turbines. Clients include major construction companies such as Kier and Fitzpatrick, commercial housing developers, housing associations, schools, colleges and NHS Trusts.
Three of the four founders of Photon Energy have worked as consultants in the renewable energy industry and the fourth had many years experience of the electrical contracting industry. Since it started in December 2006, Photon has become one of the UK's leading designer and installer of micro-generation systems and has successfully completed some very challenging projects including installing a 1.5 tonne wind turbine on the roof of an 11 storey residential block in the Elephants and Castle for the London Borough of Southwark. Photon was also appointed to install 30 solar systems on a housing estate in Huddersfield.
The Most Promising New Business 2008 is sponsored by AIMS Accountants for Business, the largest independent association of professionally qualified accountants across the UK, specialising in the accountancy needs of local smaller and independent businesses. Its Managing Director, Henry Ejdelbaum, who is a national judge for BSBC 2008 said: “As specialist small business accountants it seems only natural for us to support the FSB and this award in its BSBC 2008. It is these businesses, which represent the future of the small businesses in our country. The entrepreneurial spirit is integral to the UK economy and we believe it is essential to encourage, acknowledge and reward its successes.
