Meet Peter Davys

Peter is the Managing Director of Orrest Ltd, he has a wide range of skills and experience gained from working for major corporate organisations but he believes and has proved that small businesses, working in partnership if appropriate, can successfuly compete.

Following my previous work with the Salford Foundation I am very pleased to be able to announce an exciting development.

The FSB is providing funding for a new category within the Salford Foundation Trust called "Skills and Talent for Self Employment."  The funds will be used to purchase equipment or help to develop skills. The FSB will be involved in reviewing the applications in this new category.

Background: The Salford Foundation Trust is a grant giving charity helping young people to develop their skills and talents and to support their aspirations. Salford Foundation Trust offers

Salford Foundation Trust

the opportunity to obtain funding where personal circumstances could stand in the way of ambitions and provides support for people between the ages of 5 and 25 who live in the area.

Successful applicants:

Leanne

Leanne is 23 years old and founded the ‘Born to Perform Drama Academy' two years ago to teach young people skills in singing, dancing and drama. "I firmly believe that performing arts can benefit my students in many ways, gently encouraging their self confidence, improving social skills and team work, as well as, of course, having a good time. I have always loved Performing Arts and I am keen to continue putting my skills to good use by bringing affordable, accessible teaching to the community."

Leanne received support from the FSB through the Trust to purchase a Sound Forge 9 Professional digital production suite that enables music and films to be edited and can also be used for sound effects for productions and in classes.

Leanne will produce a promotional DVD and a memories DVD for the young students of the Academy.  Gaining the knowledge and use of the equipment will also enable her to pursue her chosen career.  Leanne currently runs the Academy on a voluntary basis for young people aged 7 – 16 years on Saturdays during term time.

Iuri came to the UK with his Mother at the age of 15 four years ago with Portuguese as his first language. Unfortunately due to a lack of support and knowledge of English he didn't do very well in his GCSE's. He has a younger sister and is the sole earner for the family

He came to Salford Foundation the Trust's sister company three years ago to the NEET's project (Not in Education, Employment or Training). He has gained literacy and numeracy qualifications and has also gained an Edexcel music certificate.

Iuri recently gained the Pro Tools qualification through The School of Sound Recording in Manchester and is now going on to study DJ Skills with the Greater Manchester Music Action Zone. He would like to work in the music industry. With the support provided by the FSB, the Trust were able to purchase DJing equipment so that Iuri can work freelance and gain valuable experience to progress in his studies at college.
