FSB Recruits 100th Member Through Leonard Cheshire Disability Scheme

The FSB has recruited its 100th member from a scheme designed to encourage disabled people to set up their own business.  Alexandra Kelland-Rosser has become the 100th person to join the FSB after competing the Leonard Cheshire Disability's Ready to Start programme.

She has used her experience in the legal profession to set up a business specialising in benefit appeals.

FSB Recruitment Chairman Colin Stratton said:

"Disabled people can often find it hard to enter the workplace so self-employment is a viable and beneficial alternative.

The Leonard Cheshire Foundation's Ready to Start programme is an innovative way for disabled people to embrace their entrepeneurial spirit.  We are pleased to be working with them and look forward ro providing Alexandra with all the support she needs to develop and grow her business."

Alexandra Kelland-Rosser said:

"People don't always have a good grasp of how to run a business.  Ready to Start has helped me to understand the principles of managing that.  The initiative has that live element which means I have been supported by a specialist who has treated me as an individual and focused on my ability not my disability.

Being part of the FSB means I am now part of the UK's largest lobbying group which advises and protects the rights of small businesses."

Linda Holland, Leonard Cheshire Disability, Ready to Start National Project Manager said:

"Disabled people experience disadvantage and discrimination every day largely through ingnorance, this needs to change.  Leonard Cheshire Disability and Ready to Sart supports disabled entrepreneurs so they can make the right choices.

All our clients who exit Ready to Start and launch their business are given the option of 12 months free membership to the FSB and as the 100th member to do so Alexandra will be able to draw on their expertise so she can grow her business."
