Latest news received from the Employment Opportunities Manager - University of Lincoln

Following the success of the University of Lincoln Graduate Internship Scheme, in which we were successfully awarded funds to support small businesses and businesses from key industrial sectors with a £1,500 bursary to recruit graduates for a 3-6 month internship; we are pleased to announce the extension of this funding.

This scheme is now available to businesses of any size, any sector to help support and encourage our graduates into employment whilst at the same time, supporting the local economy in such challenging climates.

Who is eligible?

The scheme is now available to businesses of any size, any sector and any location...........

Which graduates are eligible?

The scheme is only fo graduates of 2008, 2009, and 2010.

What does the internship scheme mean for employers?

  • We can offer employers £1500 to help subsidies graduate internships (that's £1500 per graduate intern should a company have more than one opportunity)
  • We will help with recruitment by targeting those graduates/final year students that have expressed an interest in an internship in their industrial sector.
  • We will collect the CV's of those students and chase the students for these.
  • We will promote the vacancy via website, in faculty, and mailing lists.
  • Fresh ideas injected into businesses from recent graduates.
  • An opportunity to trial what a graduate cdna do for their business with minimal risk.

What are the requirements of the internship?

The only requirements are that:

  • the graduate is paid at least minimum wage
  • The graduate is a recent (2008-2010) graduate from the University of Lincoln
  • The graduate is carrying out work that is deemed to be of "Graduate" level
  • The intership should last for 3-6 months (flexible approach)

How will it work?

  • If employers have a project/opportunity for a graduate intern we would need them to first complete the vacancy pro form.
  • We will then send this through mailing list and on the website
  • Applicants will send CV to Opportunities team
  • CV's will be sent to employers to trigger their normal recruitment procedures
  • Once in selected, a contract will need to be signed by ourselves and the employers stating the length of the internship and the employers contribution.
  • We will then be in a position to transfer the money to the employer once they invoice us for the £1500 - this will be paid in two instalments
  • The graduate will be paid and subject to the employers terms and conditions of employment

Checks

Prior to promoting the internship, we will have to visit the employers and run through a "Health and Safety" tick sheet - covering Equal Opportunities, Public Liability Insurance, etc.

What will it cost the Employer?

The employer contribution will depend on the nature of the internship in terms of duration and whether the position is part time or full time.  The employer will receive the full £1500 regardless of this and must use the whole £1500 to subsidies the graduates payment.  The employer will only be liable to pay the difference between the £1500 and the costs to recruit a graduate on at least mininum wage (£5.93 per hour) plus any on-costs.
