LOCAL NEWS
| Report A Scam |
|
Throughout August, Trading Standards are encouraging all West Sussex residents and businesses to pass them details of scams. Businesses and consumers are both regularly targeted.
Every library in West Sussex is geared up to receive evidence of attempted scams which will be passed to Trading Standards. Although many scams arrive through the post, they are keen to hear of all methods. Although Trading Standards will review all the information they receive they are unable to reply to each case.
This is an information gathering exercise with the intention of gauging the scope of the problem. This project follows-on from the Office of Fair Trading `Scamnesty` project which ran in February. Trading Standards provides an intelligence led service to businesses and consumers.

Launch of ‘Keep Trade Local Campaign’ in Dorking 14th July 2008

Dorking Town Centre was the focus of attention for FSB members this week with the launch of the Keep Trade Local Campaign in the Surrey & West Sussex Region. Local members set up in the High Street with information about the campaign and petitions for passers-by to sign. The stand attracted a great amount of interest by people wishing to secure the future of small independent retailers. Many said that the reason they come to visit Dorking was due to the diverse mix of shops that the town offers.
The FSB was particularly delighted to welcome Sir Paul Beresford, Member of Parliament for Mole Valley, who came to visit the stand and lend his support.
The launch was well supported by both retailers and shoppers and during the day over 200 signatures were collected.

Make no bones about it - times are tough for our small independent retailers, which is why the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has started its Keep Trade Local Campaign. This campaign wants to highlight that each year over 2000 local independent retailers close, and the FSB is petitioning the government to consider the plight of these retailers, and make the playing field fairer. Record Corner in Godalming has taken this campaign to heart, and so far has single-handedly collected almost 200 signatures. |
